Unity Dialysis Center at St. Mary’s Campus
Unity Health System underwent reconfiguration of their services in 1997-98, resulting in the relocation of St. Mary’s Hospital acute services to the Unity Park Ridge Campus. This allowed St. Mary’s Hospital Genesee Street Campus to provide vital sub-acute services to the Rochester inner-city community.
Master Planning after the reconfiguration identified the ideal space for the 13-station Dialysis Unit and incorporated a patient entrance and drop-off at the lower level of the former St. Mary’s Hospital. Convenient access to the loading docks for frequent deliveries of supplies was also included in the renovation.
The Waiting Room and Reception Desk are warm and welcoming to patients as they enter. The Reception Area is part of the Business Office which conveniently houses medical records for this Unit.
The large, open, light-filled Treatment Area provides privacy and comfort for the patients, with each 80 square foot station containing individual light controls, phones, a nurse’s call and oxygen. An Exam Room is provided immediately off the Treatment Area. The processing equipment and support spaces associated with the Unit are behind the scenes but easily accessible.
The design greatly improves accommodations for the dialysis patients served by Unity.
