Gardner PLUS Architects, PLLC has extensive experience in planning both chronic and acute dialysis units having designed hospital-based as well as freestanding facilities. Our design objectives for a dialysis project are patient comfort, patient safety and functional efficiency. We strive to create a healing environment that is calm, relaxing and non-institutional.  We bring natural lighting and access to views wherever possible.  This type of facility requires an in-depth understanding of the complex infrastructure with a need for access and maintenance.  Staff circulation and observation are vital to the success of the program.

The Unity Hospital Dialysis Center has been relocated to a new 8,000 SF addition to the Unity Hospital and 7,000 SF of renovated space within the Hospital. The Dialysis center provides both inpatient and outpatient dialysis services and is now easily accessible to both in-patients and out-patients. The Dialysis center is on the ground level of the Hospital at the Main Entrance. The center has private elevator access for in-patient use.

The newly modernized and expanded Dialysis Center has 24 out-patient treatment stations and 8 in-patient treatment stations dispersed around a central nurse station support area. Nursing staff can easily see all patients around the perimeter of the room while working and monitoring in the central nurse station. The interiors of the space were kept to calming tones and colors of yellow, green and blue to help the patients feel more at home during their time-intensive treatments.
